May 19th, saw the Koh Tao Community come together for an amazing day organised by The Park and Maya Beach bar to raise money to create a free community play space for the kids of Koh Tao.
P' Dusit (from Koh Tao Info) has agreed to the use of land behind his shop to build a communal park/playground to provide a much needed free space for the children of Koh Tao.
The projects is a huge one that will involve, planing and organisation a task taken on with gusto by Toni Clarke. She and Nicola Stockdale organised a fabulous fundraising event at Maya Beach bar to kick start the money to fund the event. Rosemary Allen form The Film Company went along and captured it all on camera.
Nicola Stockdale was the best MC Koh Tao has ever seen (Nic, you were brilliant and very entertaining). The kids from Splashdance 'n' Swim played tropical beach games: coconut bowling, musical towels, flip-flop toss, bob the orange and as voted by the kids themselves, the best game of the day, Kids V Janne Nurminen Tug-of-War "Jabba, we hope you're backs ok", it was a much appreciated sacrifice.
The ladies took part in the 3 legged race (and provided some very entertaining footage for our video) and all the men got involved with a tug-of war.
Pete at Molecule supplied the presents for the kids and Maya Beach Club a great BBQ (and Andrea at Avalon the delicious veggie burgers) and all their staff's hard work. All the DJ's kept the music and the vibe flowing with some awesome tunes. DJ Octo, even came all the way from Bangkok to play for us.
Chloe Straker and Zena Marie Whitworth did sterling work as the raffle ticket belles and all of the following made amazing contributions to raffle prizes:

Anyone interested in stepping up and getting involved in the project, please contact Toni Clark via facbook. The project is going to need lots of fund raising ideas and events along with any possible sponsorships of either cash donations or playground equipment donations (which of course will be honoured with a plaque in prime position so that everyone knows whose it's been donated by).
The more minds we can get together for this the better and anyone ready and willing to offer the skills required to create this mini wonderland will be cherished forever!!
