Arne

Arne is a very talented underwater photographer from The Netherlands, where he owns a visual media production company that focuses on natural resource management, underwater and surfing photography, tourist photography and videography. Arne joined the Film Company Family in March 2015 - September 2015 and brought ihis technical expertise and willingness to try DIY solutions to get get GREAT results

Arne graduated from Wageningen University with a BSc degree in Rural Development Sociology in 2003 and a MSc International Governance in 2007, which integrated development economics, sociology, natural resource management, anthropology of law, political science, gender and communication into an applied science.

Quite the Renaissance Man, Arne brought a wealth of knowledge and insight to our team. He has an immensely gifted eye for framework and structure, as seen in his photography.

“The adventurous expeditions and mesmerizing underwater imagery of my childhood hero Jacques Cousteau had grabbed My  imagination. From a young age, I was fascinated by what happened beneath the water surface and how to record this.

My present day imagery is a direct evolvement of the days spent besides a canal, catching and studying amphibians. My underwater explorations have led me to Curaçao, the Great Barrier reef, Fiji, Costa Rica, Honduras, the Red Sea and Bonaire before arriving at Koh Tao.”

CURRENTLY we find Arne Back in Amsterdam

Elizabeth

Elizabeth

AKA “Liz” or “Lizard” Liz is the creatively special member of the team…. She has a wry wit and an ability to verbalise the inner workings of her mind in a way that is incredible to us all!!!

Liz came to Koh Tao to train as an underwater videographer and dive master, Liz joined us in October 2013. She has a great sense of movement and fluidity in her edit style and creates a visual treat with lots of humour. Since Michelle’s departure Liz and her colleague Alex have taken on many of Michelle’s responsibilities.

This is what Liz has to say

“My love for SCUBA diving began when I was fifteen years old, while studying abroad in Eleuthera, The Bahamas. The freedom that I found beneath the surface of the sea ignited a thirst inside of me that only diving could satisfy. I began diving as frequently as possible, spending summers on live aboards to study marine life and further my dive certifications. I later returned to Eleuthera to monitor and maintain the first offshore aquaculture cage in the Bahamas, which farmed over five thousand native cobia fish.

In 2012, I graduated from Scripps College in Claremont, California with honours in Media Studies (Video Production Track). During my senior year at the Claremont Colleges, my thesis work explored representations of the female body as a cultural product, a “body-for-others”, constructed through media images and through women’s internalization of the patriarchal gaze. My transition from feminism to fishes as the subject of my video began on Koh Tao, the first place where I have been able to combine my passions for Diving and filmmaking. The harmony I have found in this union is so deeply satisfying it often feels surreal”

Eventually, I hope to pursue nature documentary work and travel the world filming wildlife.”

Alex

Alex

Alex is a diving machine….he was built for it!!!! having trained with Davey Jones Locker, Koh Tao, he joined The Film Company to learn the skills of underwater video and to develop his abilities in a different way.

All our clients agree he is a great asset to the team friendly, helpful and a consummate professional. As a musician he offers his own work up as part of the edit so not only are you getting his talent as a camera man and editor but also as a songwriter.

Alex along with Liz is taking responsibility for the logistical management of the day to day operations.

“I first began my underwater adventure in April 2013 at Davy Jones Locker, Koh Tao. At that time I was completely unaware of how much of a life changer Diving would be for me, little did I expect a 5 day stop on the island to do my open water course to last a year so far. In September 2013 I took the decision to stop working as a Divemaster and to plunge myself in to the art of videography.

I love diving and have discovered my passion for videography through The Film Company. A relative newcomer to the world of visual media, I constantly discover new techniques and develop my creative self. In the past, music was my life, from touring Europe with a 400 strong choir to playing in metal and ska bands and string ensembles.

Videography has given me a new string to my creative bow by redirecting my attention from aural to visual. Immersing yourself in an alien world twice a day and documenting what you find is one of the most rewarding experiences I have found to date!”

Emma

Emma

Emma is an Instructor from South-Africa/England, she trained to achieve the PADI 14 day Videography Course with us in February and already she is becoming an invaluable member of the team.

As a keen photographer she has an eye for a shot and it’s always exciting to see  how her technique and skills are developing.

Emma Says

I am originally from England but have lived in South Africa for over two years before coming to Thailand.

I trained and worked as a Scuba Diving Instructor in South Africa and started off by teaching here on Koh Tao when I arrived in December 2013.

For the last couple of years, while teaching, I have desperately wanted to visually record the amazing underwater world and decided in Feb this year that now was the time to learn! I trained with The Film Company from scratch and I had intensive training in how to shoot and edit an Open Water movie. I loved every minute of it and have decided to stay for the foreseeable future. I now have the opportunity to put all my new skills to practice and hope to shoot some really stunning images as well as provide enjoyable and inspiring movies for the students.
